Position: Basic Veterinary Assistant
Reports To: Senior Veterinary Assistant
Department: Veterinary
Starting Pay: $12/hour
Job Summary: Assist the veterinarian and other shelter staff of duties involving care and cleaning of patients and facilities including completing patient treatments and other animal care functions.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Is knowledgeable of the policies and procedures, and has responsibility for the initiation, maintenance, security, storage and destruction of pet medical records
Gentle and compassionate care of patients
Ensure the clinic maintains exceptional cleanliness in all areas, including but not limited to: all cages, floors, taking out the trash, cleaning treatment areas, bathrooms, lab area
Ensuring quality care for the animals e.g. Food, water, litter boxes are full and clean
Maintain proper documentation in Shelter Luv (shelter management program)
Ensure patients are kept clean and comfortable
Monitor and record patient vital signs and behavior, reporting any changes to the veterinary team
Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to health and safety regulations
Other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
Dependable attendance is required
Any allergies to animals must be controllable through medication
Must be able to safely lift 40 pounds
Must be willing to work long or irregular hours under pressure conditions
This position requires the ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly during a minimum 8-hour day.
Visual acuity sufficient to maintain accurate records, recognize people and understand directions
Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand, give information in person and over the phone
Fine motor skills adequate for utilizing hospital equipment such as electric clippers, syringes, computers, etc.
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Ability to interact with volunteers and staff in a team environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with others
Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately
Basic knowledge of animal health and behavior
Previous experience in an animal care environment
Proficiency in using veterinary medical equipment and tools
Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
Proven non-profit experience
Veterinary Assistant or RVT Training Program a plus
Experience with veterinary software and record-keeping systems
Previous experience in a veterinary clinic
Working Conditions:
Flexibility with work schedule: May include nights, holidays, weekends
May be exposed to bites, scratches and zoonotic disease
May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal waste

Job Summary: Assist the veterinarian and other shelter staff of duties involving care and cleaning of patients and facilities including completing patient treatments and other animal care functions, while overseeing the mentorship of basic veterinary assistants.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Is knowledgeable of the policies and procedures, and has responsibility for the initiation, maintenance, security, storage and destruction of pet medical records
Gentle and compassionate care of patients
Assists veterinarians in patient care and medical treatments including but not limited to: examinations, surgeries, medication administration, vaccine administration, microchip administration, nail trims, acquiring laboratory samples (blood, fecal etc.)
Ensure the clinic maintains exceptional cleanliness in all areas, including but not limited to: floors, taking out the trash, cleaning treatment areas, bathrooms, lab area
Maintain proper documentation in Shelter Luv (shelter management program)
Ensure patients are kept clean and comfortable

Starting Pay: $20-$22/hour
Job Summary: Oversee daily operations, ensuring the highest of standards o care for the animals while leading a dedicated team of veterinary assistants and technicians, as well as assisting the veterinarian and other shelter staff of duties involving care and cleaning of patients and facilities including completing patient treatments and other animal care functions.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Is knowledgeable of the policies and procedures, and has responsibility for the initiation, maintenance, security, storage and destruction of pet medical records
Gentle and compassionate care of patients
Assists veterinarians in patient care and medical treatments including but not limited to: examinations, surgeries. medication administration, vaccine administration, microchips administration, nail trims, acquiring laboratory samples (blood, fecal etc.).
Ensure the clinic maintains exceptional cleanliness in all areas by supervising veterinary assistants
Maintain proper documentation in Shelter Luv (shelter management program)
Ensure patients are kept clean and comfortable
Supervise and mentor a team of veterinary assistants, fostering an environment of continuous learning and professional development
Communicate effectively with the veterinarian and Cat Intake Manager regarding medical needs
Oversee inventory management, ensuring that all medical supplies and medications are adequately stocked and organized

Minimum 3 years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role
Certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, OR RVT) is preferred
Strong knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, procedures, and protocols
Attention to detail and problem solving skills
Ability to interact with volunteers and staff in a team environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
High School Diploma or GED
Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
Non-profit/animal shelter experience
Experience with veterinary software and record-keeping systems
Previous experience in a veterinary clinic
Experience in a specialty or emergency veterinary setting
Additional certifications of animal behavior and handling techniques
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
