Pre-Surgical Protocol

Please drop off your pet at your designated drop-off time using the side door of the building. Following drop-off, the veterinarian will examine your pet to ensure he/she is a healthy candidate for his/her procedure. We ask you please stay in our waiting room during the examination so the doctor can easily locate you with any questions or concerns. Our team will inform you when the examination is complete and when you may leave.
Cats must be secured individually in a hard-sided, clean carrier or humane live trap (one cat per carrier) with his/her name written in a visible location. Please be sure to have your organization's information on your carrier to prevent misplacement.
Do not feed your pet anything after 11:00pm the night before his/her procedure. You can offer water overnight, but please do not bring anything inside the carrier with your pet.
Procedures are usually completed before 2pm. You can expect to pick up your pet around 3-4pm. Our team will call the number you provided when it is time for pickup.
All payment is due at the time of pickup. PALnv Clinic accepts card and cash payments.

Post-Surgical Protocol

To avoid nausea, do not offer food immediately upon arriving home. Feed about half the usual amount after arriving home if he/she seems hungry. Some pets have a decreased appetite for 1-2 days following surgery.
If you opted in for the optional Onsior Pain Injection, Dr. Schuman prescribed the following for the patient:
The patient was given an injection to decrease his/her pain which will last for 24 hours.
Seek immediate veterinary care if the patient...
- The incision has signs of redness, swelling, or discharge.
- Seems agitated or uncomfortable for more than 2 hours. 1 of 2 Has difficulty breathing.
- Begins squinting his/her eyes for more than 1 hour at a time.
- Develops any wounds on his/her body. Refuses to eat or drink for more than 12 hours.
- Does not defecate for more than 48 hours. Has diarrhea for more than 12 hours.
- Vomits more than three times in 12 hours.
- Begins bumping into objects.
- Has difficulty walking or jumping.
- The bandage has a foul smell.
